Mission
The CCD Employment and Training
Task Force works on issues relevant to the employment of people with
disabilities, particularly issues related to the programs and projects
funded under the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as amended.
The Task Force has also been
working with on recent proposals regarding the Social Security
Administration's efforts to facilitate the employment of individuals
receiving Social Security benefits, and the employment and training programs
administered by the Department of Labor.

Update
Throughout the quarter, the Employment and Training Task force continued to monitor Hill action on the Workforce Incentives Act and the Rehabilitation Act and followed up with the Office of Personnel Management on the status of the final regulations for Excepted Service for People with Disabilities in federal employment.

- Fture of Vocational Rehabilitation Dialogue Update
The vocational rehabilitation community, including state vocational rehabilitation agencies, community rehabilitation providers, advocacy groups, researchers, and government partners, began a discussion in 2006 to explore the changing needs of individuals with disabilities who looking to enter or advance in the world of work. This discussion has sought to produce concepts as well as tangible models for equipping the broad community engaged in employment and training issues for people with disabilities to begin crafting now the systems to support workers with disabilities in the next decade. Two national forums have been held to date, with a third meeting scheduled for early to mid September 2007 in Washington, DC. The groups charged with crafting the discussion for that meeting recently reported on their activities since the last national gathering. Submitted comments to Department of Education in Response to Proposed Priorities for DRRPs, RRTCs, and RERCs.

Participated in CCD Employment Summit to set direction in working with Congress in the coming year.

Reviewed the U.S. Census Bureau report regarding disability and employment and attended the Interagency Committee on Disability Research (ICDR) meeting seeking comments with respect to the federal disability and rehabilitation research agenda. The Task force had submitted comments on their published priorities and strives to understand disability data as it relates to program needs.

Task force members attended a focus group meeting sponsored by NISH soliciting input on the pending modernization of the Javits-Wagner-O’Day Act.
