Update
The Social Security Advisory Board (SSAB) selected task force co-chair Marty Ford for its panel that is developing a new “national approach to disability programs.” The Social Security Task Force, along with several other CCD task forces, is developing a letter for the SSAB to reflect CCD’s basic principles on this issue.
Activities
- Reducing the Disability Backlog at the Social Security Administration/FY 2009 Budget Overview (March 3, 2008)
- CCD “Statement of Principles: Social Security Disability Program Work Incentives and Related Issues” (February 13, 2008)
This document sets forth four basic principles that need to be followed in discussions about ways to change and improve the existing Social Security disability programs regarding initiatives to promote
employment for beneficiaries. It also includes an overview of current work-related recommendations by CCD. If enacted, these recommendations would modernize and transform the programs so that people
who want to work could do so without fear of repercussions. At the same time, these proposals would preserve the critical income supports and access to health and long term supports and services needed
by so many people with severe disabilities.
