Mission

The CCD International Task Force envisions a global society in which individuals with disabilities have the rights, freedoms, and opportunities to fully participate in all aspects of civic life and to exercise individual decisions concerning their own lives. To achieve this vision, the International Task Force will advocate for United States and international policies which promote the rights and inclusion of persons with disabilities worldwide, educate members of CCD and the broader domestic community about United States and international disability policies and development, and foster the sharing of information between CCD members and other international disability advocates.

Activities on the Disability Rights Treaty

Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) – The Disability Rights Treaty

The CRPD is an international treaty establishing human rights for individuals with disabilities.  The CRPD was created in 2006 modeled after the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

Nations who agree to the disability rights contained in the CRPD  adopt the treaty by a process known as ratification.  As of May 2013, 129 nations and the European Union have ratified the treaty.  The link above will provide updated information on the number of ratifications and which nations have ratified the treaty.  The United States has signed but not yet ratified the CRPD.
